Our opinion

Having become for the most part veritable shopping complexes, the Dancharia sales, on the border between Soule (French side) and Navarre (Spanish side), no longer have the charm of the small grocery store-bazaars of yesteryear. But you can still find top-quality local products there.

Dancharia is a commune of Navarre which is located in the Basque country, on the Spanish side. It is a village of ventas (pronounced "Benta"), meaning local shops. You will find supermarkets, butchers, delicatessens, fishmongers, liquor stores of all kinds, souvenirs, tobacco, leather goods, clothing, perfumery, jewellery, Hi-Fi and Hi-Tech, decorative objects, grocery stores where local products are sold, chocolate found in the form of large tablets, etc., everything, of course, cheaper than in France! Restaurants and bars, cider house and discotheque are there to eat and have a good time. And before leaving, refueling is almost obligatory in one of the five stations because the prices are 8 to 10 centimes below the French rates. The fact remains that the landscape surrounding Dancharia is superb. You can see the first Pyrenean peaks and along the road , a few farms that raise sheep and pottioks Caves can be visited and a peaceful walk p can take you along the Nivelle or the Laptixuri river. But before arriving at Dancharia, you will cross the very touristy village of Aïnhoa. It was one of the stops for pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela since it was founded as a hospital relay at the end of the 12th century. this is why this commune and its border district, Dancharia, have remained very welcoming to all visitors. Admire the beautiful houses, the washhouse, the cemetery with its headstones, the church, especially since Aïnhoa is one of the most beautiful villages in France. Linking the useful to the pleasant is one of the major assets of Dancharia with an undeniable tourist attraction as much by the landscapes crossed as by the visit of Aïnhoa and the purchases that can be made there on an impressive number of products offered at cheaper prices than in France.
